Folarin Balogun (23) is enjoying arguably his best spell of form since joining AS Monaco from Arsenal back in the summer of 2023. For the first time, he netted back-to-back goals in Ligue 1, netting against Le Havre AC and Montpellier HSC. That run was then extended to three games against Stade Rennais on Saturday night.
Balogun beat Steve Mandanda in the Rennes goal with a chipped finish midway through the first half. It ultimately proved to be the winning goal with the Principality club winning 2-1. However, the former Arsenal forward was forced off midway through the second half due to a shoulder injury.
He went off holding his left shoulder and was replaced by George Ilenikhena. In a press conference, attended by Get French Football News, Adi Hütter gave a brief update on the striker’s injury. “He has injured his shoulder and it was very painful. We will await the verdict of the tests,” said the Austrian. Naturally, Balogun’s spot in the USMNT squad for the upcoming international break is at risk.
