A deal that we brought to you exclusively nearly 2 months ago now, OGC Nice have confirmed the signing of Nampalys Mendy on a free transfer, the defensive midfielder from Monaco after his contract expired.
Claudio Ranieri has described the 21 year old French ‘espoir’ as ‘mad’ for deciding to leave Monaco. He moves to Les Aiglons who persuaded the youngster to sign a pre-contract back in May after qualifying for the Europa League next season. He will bring some bite into Les Nicois’ midfield, especially with the potential departure of Didier Digard.
Get French Football News understands that Monaco are now closing in on a deal to sign Etienne Capoue in a swift move to replace Mendy. We understand that the player has partaken in successful contractual negotiations but a fee has yet to be agreed between Monaco and Toulouse. The overall price is reportedly between €15m-€20m, but nothing is complete there yet.
