Former Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin (28) has joined FC Nantes on a free transfer, signing a one-year deal with Les Canaris.
After an injury-hit spell at Everton, the Ivory Coast international saw his contract with the Toffees terminated at the start of last season.
In an attempt to bounce back, Gbamin returned to Northern France. He joined Ligue 2 side USL Dunkerque, not only in an attempt to get his career back on track but also to move close to his family. It is a move that has paid dividends. Having helped the club remain in Ligue 2, he left upon the expiry of his contract.
Gbamin has garnered interest from various Ligue 1 clubs, including promoted sides, as well as from the MLS with a move to New York Red Bulls near completion at one point. However, he remains in France, joining Nantes on a one-year deal after completing his medical on Tuesday.
