Nantes rival Brest in the race to sign Lens’ Salis Abdul Samed

Nantes have joined Ligue 1 rivals Brest in the race to sign out-of-favour RC Lens midfielder Salis Abdul Samed (24), according to a report from Ouest-France. The 24-year-old has been training separately from Will Still’s senior Artois side. The Ghana international midfielder has had an overwhelming Ligue 1 campaign after impressing in the 2022-2023 season with RC Lens.

Foot Mercato reported that Brest were leading the race to sign Salis Abdul Samed on a season-long loan with Eric Roy hoping to bolster his options considering the Pirates will feature in the revamped 36-team Champions League. However, Ouest-France understands that Antoine Kombouaré’s Nantes are “progressing’ in talks to sign the 24-year-old defensive midfielder on loan.

Les Canaris are planning for a midfield revamp with Pedro Chirivella and Douglas Augusto having both asked to leave the Ligue 1 side. Lyon midfielder Johann Lepenant has already joined on loan whilst Jean-Philippe Gbamin is set to sign a one-year deal as a free agent.
