In an official announcement via social media, Olympique Lyonnais have confirmed that Rayan Cherki (20) has signed a new contract extension with the club. The Lyon attacking midfielder finally pens terms with his boyhood club after a summer where he was constantly linked with a move away from the Groupama Stadium.
The 20-year-old was expected to leave OL during the summer transfer window. Borussia Dortmund looked his most likely destination until a change of heart from the Bundesliga club saw Cherki’s prospective move to Germany collapse. RB Leipzig and Fulham both showed an interest in his services but with a rejected bid from the West London club, the moves never advanced.
Cherki’s new deal with Les Gones will see him extend his stay at the Ligue 1 club until 2026 – the France U21 international has signed a one-year extension. The agreement also includes an optional extension clause which could see the Lyon-born attacking midfielder stay at OL until 2027.
