It was always thought that Stade de Reims would be in the market for a new manager this summer. Will Still had very publically stated a desire to return to England, notably in an interview with The Athletic. What wasn’t expected, however, was that Still would leave Reims before the end of the season.
Following the Englishman’s dismissal a fortnight ago, Samba Diawara has taken interim charge and has secured four points in two games, against Stade Brestois and Olympique de Marseille. However, it isn’t expected that he will remain in charge beyond the end of the season.
Two names have been linked with the soon-to-be-vacant role at the Stade de Auguste Delaune: Habib Beye and Luka Elsner. The former has announced that, after getting Red Star promoted to Ligue 2, he will leave the Parisian club for a new challenge. Foot Mercato and Ouest-France have reported that talks between Beye and Les Stadistes have indeed taken place, with the Frenchman intent on managing in Ligue 1.
Sacha Tavolieri has also linked Elsner with the role at Reims, with Les Stadistes reportedly making contact with the Le Havre AC manager, who has led the club to safety in their first season back in Ligue 1. However, Prime Video Sport deny having made any contact with Elsner. The broadcaster added that Reims have established a list of six or seven names and contact with those candidates will be made soon.
