France dressing room left stunned after Mike Maignan post-match rant

Mike Maignan (29) denounced the lack of commitment of his teammates during France’s 3-1 defeat to Italy during a post-match rant that left the dressing room shellshocked, according to a report from L’Équipe

The AC Milan goalkeeper was one of the first to return to the dressing room post-match and he immediately began voicing his discontent. However, it was not until all of his teammates were in the dressing room that Maignan made his feelings truly felt. Whilst Didier Deschamps denounced the “lack of effort” in his post-match talk in the dressing room, later speaking publically about a lack of fitness within his squad, Maignan was more cutting with his criticism.

In a two-minute speech, Maignan criticised the collective attitude, according to L’Équipe, stating that whilst only two Italy players would get into the France team, it was La Squadra that showed the desire and aggression to win the match. The France No.1 didn’t hold back, and at the end of his impassioned speech, no one “dared” speak. The dressing room was left silent with neither captain Kylian Mbappé nor vice-captain Antoine Griezmann addressing the squad.
