Marseille sanction Chancel Mbemba in ongoing medical disagreement

Chancel Mbemba could be reintegrated into the Olympique de Marseille set up per a report by L’Équipe. The French outlet notes that according to the professional football charter, the defender should be reinstated into the professional squad after the international break.

However, the conflict between Mbemba and Les Phocéens has yet to be resolved. The Congolese international was informed of a financial sanction on Friday, with three weeks’ wages being deducted from his pay for alleged acts of repeated insubordination.

Mbemba was accused of refusing to attend medical examinations following his return from international duty with the Democratic Republic of the Congo in September. L’Équipe notes that the defender disagrees with the assessment of the Marseille medical staff who believe that the centre-back needs to undergo knee surgery.

Mbemba believes that he is fit enough to play and points to his performances with the Congo national team where he played the full 90 minutes of the games against Guinea and Ethiopia. The conflict between club and player looks to continue with the two sides communicating exclusively via lawyers.
