Chancel Mbemba contacts LFP’s legal committee over Marseille’s sanction

According to a report by La Provence, Chancel Mbemba (30) has contacted the LFP’s legal committee over Olympique de Marseille’s latest sanction.

The defender believes that his punishment of a 23-day salary reduction for not attending the club’s medical examinations after his return from international duty with the Democratic Republic of the Congo is unfair. Mbemba’s lawyers argue that the scale of punishment would usually be a warning.

Mbemba had previously been sanctioned two weeks’ wages after an altercation with the head coach of the reserves team Ali Zarrak. The defender had also contacted the LFP legal committee over this punishment and it was reduced from two weeks to six days.

The Marseille-based outlet also writes that Mbemba’s relatives have been surprised at the defender’s treatment. The centre-back had been a key member of the squad and one of the club’s best performers since joining from Porto in 2022.

However, over the summer he was asked to leave the club and placed in the reserves, and has not yet been reinstated into the professional group. The defender also allegedly is not allowed to enter the club’s weight room nor is he allowed to eat his meals in the canteen.
