Olympique Lyonnais have announced this evening that they have released their sporting director David Friio pending a final decision that will be made in the coming days.
It was reported by L’Équipe that the sporting director was paying for the poor relationship that he has with owner John Textor, who had become annoyed by Friio over the past few months. The breaking point, however, is reportedly due to the inability of the club to move high wages out of the club over the summer transfer window.
For instance, Anthony Lopes (33) who had been transfer-listed since before the window began remains on the club’s books, despite the fact that the team have no wish to use the veteran goalkeeper. However, the goalkeeper is far from the only player that Lyon wished to see leave.
L’Équipe further reports that it is not certain that Lyon will act immediately to fill Friio’s position.
