Transfer Update: Clement Grenier

Keep track of the French attacking midfielder’s transfer saga, step by step, right here:

Thursday 29th August 2013:

Clement Grenier confirms he promises to stay ‘at least one more season’ at Lyon, despite CL elimination. The Champions League group stage was promised to him by the club and was a key feature in making him reject Arsenal and stay at the French side.

Monday 19th August 2013:

RMC’s transfer window expert @mohamedbouhafsi has now told us that Arsene Wenger called Clement Grenier personally to tell him that he was Arsenal’s priority for the transfer market. @mohamedbouhafsi tells us that Grenier did deliberate a lot on his future, but did eventually opt to sign a contract extension at Lyon.

We, Get French Football News, have also been told that Clement Grenier remains on good terms with Arsene Wenger.

Thursday 11th July 2013:

Lyon have confirmed that Clement Grenier has signed a contract extension with the club until 2016, which ends Arsenal’s pursuit of the player for this summer at least. Contract details unknown at this stage.

Monday 1st July 2013:

Lyon president Aulas has once again claimed that Clement Grenier will not be leaving the club this Summer, but this time has claimed that the player is close to signing a new deal. We will have to see if this is merely Aulas trying to kill speculation or actually the truth. He had this to say:

“He’ll be here next year. We are moving towards a one-year extension, perhaps more. “

Saturday 29th June 2013:

Le Parisien understands that Arsenal have had a €7m offer rejected for Clement Grenier, after Alexandre Higounet claimed earlier this week that a fresh bid had been made by the Gooners.

Mercato 365 understands that Clement Grenier is intent on leaving Lyon, but President Jean Michel Aulas will certainly put up a fight to keep him, after offering the player no more than 6 contract extension offers this year, Get French Football News understands.
