Kevin Danso (25) has released a public statement across his social media following the collapse of his loan move away from RC Lens. The Austrian international had looked set to join AS Roma on a year-long loan with an option to buy, but this fell through after reports emerged that the defender had failed his medical.
The centre-back wrote, “I am disappointed and upset about the events of the past few days and the failed transfer to Roma. Above all, I am very surprised by the supposed reason for the collapsed transfer. Both the doctors of the Austrian Football Association and the medical department of RC Lens have closely monitored me and regularly examined me over the past few years.”
He continued, “Most recently, I was thoroughly assessed at the start of pre-season training in Lens and no irregularities were ever found. Therefore, the interpretations of the medical check in Rome are highly perplexing and completely incomprehensible to my team and I.”
Lens weigh in on Kevin Danso’s failed transfer to Roma
It is a statement that follows Lens’s approach to the situation, with the French club not hiding their disappointment with their Italian counterparts last night. “We are wondering about the deeper reasons for the cancellation of this transfer of a meticulously monitored player who has played more than 30 matches on French and international pitches.”
Lens further detailed that Danso who was not in the squad for last night’s defeat to Panathinaikos will soon be back in the starting lineup, although he remains a doubt for the match against AS Monaco on Sunday.
This is not the first time this summer that Lens have seen a transfer fail to materialise after a failed medical. El Aynaoui’s move to Monaco collapsed after a knee injury ligament was reportedly detected during his medical.
Foot Mercato went as far as saying that the former Nancy midfielder was expected to undergo knee ligament surgery, meaning El Aynaoui would miss the better part of the next Ligue 1 season.
