Stade de Reims’ Amadou Koné (19) has been handed a four-match ban for his foul on Lille OSC’s Angel Gomes (23), which saw the England youth international hospitalised.
Gomes was left unconscious after a collision with Reims’ Koné and remained on the pitch for over 30 minutes before being evacuated on a stretcher and taken straight to hospital. Koné was shown a straight red card for the incident. The game did restart, with 35 minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
Post-match, LOSC president Olivier Létang alleviated the concern surrounding Gomes, stating that the Englishman was conscious when transported to hospital. Gomes then took to social media the following morning, stating that he was “feeling good” following the head injury.
Koné has now received a four-game ban for the incident, the LFP announced on Wednesday. He will now miss matches against Olympique de Marseille, Stade Rennais, FC Nantes, and Paris Saint-Germain. Reims president Jean Pierre Caillot confirmed that the club would not be contesting the LFP’s ruling, despite stating that he believes the suspension is “excessive” in his eyes. “The most important thing is of course that Angel Gomes is doing well and can play again soon,” he added.
