Michael Olise, Wesley Fofana in? Benjamin Pavard out? What to expect from Didier Deschamps’ France squad announcement

Didier Deschamps will announce his first squad since the Euros, as France prepare to face Italy and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League at the start of September.

There will be changes to that side. Notably, Olivier Giroud has since retired from international football, opening up a space in the squad. After a successful Olympics with Les Bleus, Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta may be in contention, however, RMC Sport understands that he only has an outside chance of making the squad.

One player almost certain of being included for the first time is Michael Olise, who recently transferred to Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace. Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku is also in contention for a recall, especially amid the uncertainty surrounding Kingsley Coman’s future at club level.

It is expected that there will be changes in the defence too. Benjamin Pavard’s place in the squad is under threat, according to RMC Sport. Chelsea duo Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana could receive a call-up. West Ham United’s Jean-Clair Todibo, as well as Loíc Badé and Castello Lukeba, are also in contention for France call-ups but are less likely picks.
