According to a report by L’Équipe, Rayan Cherki (21) could extend his contract at Olympique Lyonnais. Lyon had placed Cherki in the “loft” this summer as they looked to sell a player entering the final year of his contract.
All signs appeared to point towards an exit, the club had agreed to a fee with Paris Saint-Germain in late June, but at the last minute, the player instead wanted to join Borussia Dortmund, who had not sent an offer.
More recently, Fulham had been interested in lifting the player away from his formative club and had a €15 million bid accepted. However, Cherki was unwilling to join the London club leaving both Lyon and the player in a predicament with the transfer deadline fast approaching.
Lyon have now offered Cherki the opportunity to extend his contract in the long term with a small wage increase and the promise that he will be reintegrated into Pierre Sage’s squad. Unless Cherki can find a suitable club willing to pay €15 million in the next few days it appears as if the mercurial player will continue his stay in Lyon. L’Équipe further reports that Liverpool have made enquiries.
