Several FC Nantes fans have been injured following violent clashes with Ajaccio supporters on Saturday night, according to a report from Corse-Matin. Les Canaris faced AC Ajaccio on Sunday afternoon at Stade René-Coty for Ligue 1 gameweek 22. The visitors prevailed thanks to two second-half goals from Evann Guessand and Ludovic Blas in what was a fairly dull encounter – but the night before, the situation was at a boiling point in Corsica.

According to the outlet, violent clashes broke out between the two sets of supporters in downtown Ajaccio. Police intervened and deployed tear gas canisters to disperse the fans. Corse-Matin add that several Nantes supporters suffered minor injuries. In a statement released on Saturday, FC Nantes lamented the fact that no Corsican transport company had agreed to drive their supporters to the stadium, the Corsican authorities having issued a decree prohibiting their arrival other than in a convoy. On Sunday, proceedings have been opened for “group violence“. Ajaccio slumped into eighteenth place whilst Nantes have given themselves breathing space and now have a seven-point lead on the 4-team relegation zone.
