Everton’s Neal Maupay keen on OGC Nice return

Everton striker Neal Maupay (28) is keen on a return to formative Ligue 1 club OGC Nice, according to Nice-Matin. The 28-year-old centre-forward has been the subject of interest from Olympique de Marseille as Roberto De Zerbi’s side scours the market for a replacement for the injured Faris Moumbagna. Everton reportedly rejected Les Phocéens‘ attempt to sign Maupay on loan with an option to buy. The Frenchman was an unused substitute during Everton’s Premier League season-opener against Brighton at home. Maupay has been benched again for this Saturday’s away game at Tottenham.

Maupay may return to Ligue 1 with Nice-Matin reporting that the 28-year-old Frenchman would be open to returning to Les Aiglons. The INEOS-owned Ligue 1 club is, so far, not entertaining the opportunity of bringing Maupay back to his formative club. However, Gaëtan Laborde’s foot fracture might change Nice’s stance with Franck Haise also missing Terem Moffi through injury. The outlet understands that Everton would be open to selling Maupay as he’s entering his final contract year.
