Raphaël Varane (31) has ensured that his time at Manchester United finished on a high. The Frenchman recovered just in time from a muscular injury to start in the Red Devils’ FA Cup final victory over fierce rivals Manchester City (2-1) at Wembley. The Frenchman therefore leaves Old Trafford with one EFL Cup and one FA Cup to his name.
Since joining Manchester United in 2021, Varane has made 95 appearances for the club. However, earlier this month, it was confirmed that the former Real Madrid defender would not be remaining at the club beyond the end of his current deal. Varane is therefore available as a free agent and speaking to beIn Sports, he addressed the uncertainty surrounding his future.
RC Lens exploring feasibility of ambitious Varane return
“I don’t know [where I will go]. I’ll take time to think. I just wanted to come back in time for the final. A return to France? Everything is possible. I’m at the end of my contract. It’s the first time that has happened in my career so I’ll take the time to really think,” he said.
Varane has notably been linked with a return to formative club RC Lens. Manager Franck Haise has previously said that he is open to the Frenchman returning to the Bollaert, whilst Foot Mercato reported earlier this month that Les Sang et Or were exploring the feasibility of pulling off the ambitious move.
