Former AC Milan and AS Roma Sporting director Frederic Massara is set to join Rennes and replace departing Sporting director Florian Maurice, according to a report this Monday from Sports Zone. The outlet understands a total agreement has been reached between the Italian executive and the Ligue 1 club’s board. According to sources contacted by Get French Football News, Massara traveled to France on Saturday to meet the club’s executives and owners. The latter reportedly want the matter to be resolved as quickly as possible.
Barring any unexpected turnaround, Massara will replace Maurice, who is reportedly in talks to join INEOS-owned OGC Nice and replace Florent Ghisolfi as Les Aiglons‘ Sporting director. Massara was Paolo Maldini’s right-hand man when the Italian centre-back was Milan’s Technical director. The 55-year-old Massara was crowned Sporting Director of the Year at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards, the year Milan were Serie A champions, and is known to speak French.
Rennes are expected to officially announce the arrival of Massara as well as Maurice’s exit this week. It remains to be seen whether the former France international will either resign to facilitate his move to Nice or leave Les Bretons on a mutually agreed basis.
