‘I have never seen such intelligence to compensate’ – Luis Enrique praises Warren Zaïre-Emery’s selfless playing style

In his pre-match press conference, as PSG prepare to face Rennes on Sunday afternoon in Ligue 1, Luis Enrique was full of praise for Warren Zaïre-Emery (17).

The Spanish coach was asked about the 17-year-old’s versatility to which he responded, “I have never seen a player with such intelligence to understand and compensate for what his teammates are doing. It’s something that almost no one sees but it has a lot of value.”

A natural in two positions?

Traditionally, the France international is recognised as a midfielder and has shined in his breakout season. However, at times this season, Luis Enrique has played the PSG academy graduate as an inverted wing back with the task of narrowing to form a midfield 4 in possession and then a defensive 4 without possession. Zaïre-Emery was tasked with playing as a right back in PSG’s latest 2-0 victory against Nantes and with an impressive performance has clearly convinced his coach of his ability to fulfil the role.
