According to Foot Mercato, both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are skeptical about keeping midfielder Leandro Paredes due to the potentially high cost of the transfer and his inconsistent performances for his club despite winning the World Cup with Argentina.
Last June, as Paredes’s contract with PSG was set to expire in 2023, it was automatically extended for another season. The player made it clear that he had no intention of leaving Paris, where he enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle and a close friendship with Lionel Messi. However, Luis Campos and Christophe Galtier had different plans when they arrived last summer, and sent him on a paid loan to Juventus with a non-obligatory purchase option worth €5 million.
Although he showcased promise with the Argentina national team, the 2022 World Cup champion struggled to find consistency at Juventus. Manager Massimiliano Allegri recognized this and, as a result, Paredes only started in 13 out of 30 matches across all competitions. The Italian coach’s lack of faith in Paredes was evident when the player openly confronted Allegri during a training session.
Despite the player wanting to stay in Italy with Juventus, the Old Lady are reportedly not willing to activate the €5m purchase option for the Argentine. Consequently, he will return to PSG from his loan move – where he is equally out of favour.
