French U20 midfielder Pierre Ekwah (21) is set to leave West Ham to sign for Sunderland, according to a report from Foot Mercato. A former Clairefontaine, FC Nantes and Chelsea youth product, the 21-year-old left-footed versatile midfielder played eleven games with the Hammers’ U21 Premier League 2 squad and registered five goals and a assist.
Ekwah has been unable to carve out a place in the David Moyes-led side – this season, he made the senior squad only twice for West Ham’s UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds against Danish side Viborg, and was an unused substitute for both ties. The Massy-born player is expected to go down a step in order to gain game time.
Foot Mercato report the Frenchman, able to anchor the midfield and to play on the left, is expected to leave the London side in the coming hours to put pen to paper on a deal with the ninth-placed Championship outfit Sunderland. Ekwah is reportedly on the verge of signing a long-term contract with the Black Cats.
