Angel Gomes (24) has forged a career for himself at Lille OSC, becoming a regular for Les Dogues in the past two seasons. It came after he burst onto the scene at Manchester United, having come through the academy to become the first player born in the 2000s to play in the Premier League.
However, it didn’t work out for him at his formative club, and he instead had to make a name for himself abroad. Having become an England international whilst at Lille, and with less than one year remaining on his contract, Gomes is now being linked with a return to the Premier League.
It is a possibility that he is open to, but nor is it an obsession. “As amazing as it would be (a return to the Premier League), after finding happiness abroad I know playing [in the Premier League] is not the be-all-and-end-all,” Gomes told The Times.
The England international then responded to links to a potential move back to formative club Manchester United. “There’ll always be that sentimental soft spot, so of course it’d be difficult to say no,” he said. With under one year remaining on his deal, Gomes and Lille have a decision to make in the not-too-distant future.
