Sochaux to profit from Manchester United defender’s Villarreal move

After a season in which he broke through into the first-team, Will Kambwala (19) will – perhaps surprisingly – leave Manchester United this summer and join La Liga side Villarreal.

As reported by L’Équipe and in the British media, the French defender will leave the Red Devils and join Villarreal, signing a five-year deal with the Spanish club. L’Équipe understands that the deal will be worth around €10m, whilst Manchester United will have a buy-back clause inserted into the permanent transfer.

Whilst Manchester United will make a considerable profit on the France youth international, who arrived at the club back in 2020 for €4m, National 1 side FC Sochaux will also be a major benefactor of the move. The French side, currently in the third tier, included a sell-on percentage into the deal that saw Kambwala join Manchester United four years ago.

As a result, Sochaux will receive a bit over €500,000 when the move taking Kambwala from Manchester United to Villarreal is completed, according to L’Équipe.
