Swedish goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson (34) has joined Strasbourg as a free agent, after being released by FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the wake of the club’s bankruptcy. The former En Avant Guingamp shot-stopper is expected to act as a backup goalkeeper. Les Alsaciens are reportedly aiming to sign Chelsea’s Djordre Petrovic (24) on loan. Johnsson played 22 games for Bordeaux last campaign. The 34-year-old goalkeeper has put pen to paper over a two-year deal and will wear the #30 jersey with Liam Rosenior’s squad.
On the back of Matz Sels’ (32) mid-season shock move to Nottingham Forest, Strasbourg were struggling to find an apt replacement for the Belgium international, with Alaa Bellaarouch (22) not able to convince the club’s higher-ups to hand him a chance for the upcoming Ligue 1 season. Strasbourg will kick off their campaign away at Montpellier this Sunday.
