According to L’Équipe and AFP, a Nancy supporter who was identified as the perpetrator of racist chanting in a third tier league match against Red Star FC has been banned by the Lorraine club for five years.
Nabil El Yaagoubi, Deputy General Director of Nancy, stated, “We have identified the individual, who turned himself in to the police. We will be banning him from attending matches for five years under the Larrivé law, which allows clubs to restrict ticket sales to fans with problematic behavior and to maintain a database of such individuals.”
The identification of the spectator was made possible through stadium CCTV cameras, with clear images pointing towards a single person. Players from Red Star also reported the individual for making offensive gestures.
The case is now in the hands of the justice system, with AS Nancy having filed an official complaint with the local police. The Public Prosecutor of Nancy, François Capin-Dulhoste, confirmed that an investigation was underway, handled by the local law enforcement. Additionally, the French FA’s disciplinary committee have already announced they are initiating proceedings to investigate the incident.
