Former Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin garnering significant Ligue 1 interest

At the start of the season, Jean-Philippe Gbamin (28) saw his Everton contract terminated. The Ivory Coast international had struggled ever since arriving at Goodison Park and failed to shake off successive injuries that plagued his time in England.

In an attempt to bounce back, Gbamin returned to Northern France. He joined Ligue 2 side USL Dunkerque, not only in an attempt to get his career back on track but also to move close to his family. It is a move that has paid dividends. Having helped the club remain in Ligue 2, he is now set for a move, having arrived at the end of his contract.

Thanks to his performances, the former Everton midfielder won’t be short of suitors this summer. According to Ouest-France, the two promoted sides from Ligue 2, SCO Angers and AJ Auxerre, are both interested in signing him on a free transfer. FC Metz, whose survival in Ligue 1 will be dictated by next week’s result against AS Saint-Étienne, have also enquired.

However, L’Équipe understands that the French clubs may also face competition from German clubs, who have also enquired about the possibility of bringing Gbamin back to the Bundesliga.
