Rennes winger Jota (25) has been unveiled to the media this Friday during a press conference transcribed by Ouest-France. The Portuguese winger is arguably Rennes’ marquee signing of the summer transfer window. Jota left Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad to make a return to European football with the Bretons. Jota signed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 side. “Many factors have contributed to my transfer to Rennes“, Jota said in French. “First and foremost, I think every player wants to feature in Europe’s top five leagues and, secondly, the club’s project in itself.“
Jota has revealed that France international and Al-Ittihad teammate N’Golo Kanté had advised him to join Stade Rennais. “I think it’s a great club to improve. There is a lot of talent, the atmosphere and the facilities are good. N’Golo Kanté spoke highly of Rennes.” The tireless defensive midfielder previously played against Rennes, during his Chelsea days, in the 2020-2021 Champions League group stage.
The former Celtic FC winger has opened up on his one-year spell in Al-Ittihad. Jota logged five goals and one assist in 25 games for the Jeddah-based Saudi Pro League club. “I don’t regret at all going to Saudi Arabia last year. I’m proud of the decisions I made because they made me the person I am today, and maybe I wouldn’t be here if I had made a different decision.” Jota may make his Roazhon Park debut with Rennes hosting Montpellier this Sunday.
