France to face Argentina in the Olympic tournament’s quarter-finals

France and Argentina will meet again in the knockout stages of an international tournament, more than eighteen months after the 2022 World Cup final won on penalties by Lionel Scaloni’s Albiceleste. Les Bleus will face Argentina on home soil in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games men’s football tournament courtesy of their group stage 3-0 win against New Zealand. Goals from Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta (27) and Rennes strikers Désiré Doué (19) and Arnaud Kalimuendo (22) have ensured Thierry Henry’s France team to top the tournament’s Group A.

To kick off their knockout stage, France will face the runners-up of Group B: Argentina. The quarter-final tie between France and Argentina will take place this Friday at 9pm CET at Bordeaux. The atmosphere promises to be raucous at the Matmut-Atlantique following the controversy that surrounded the senior Argentina football team. Footage of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez (23) taking part in a chant mocking Les Bleus‘ origins emerged on social media. The uproar forced the French FA to file a legal complaint. At the Paris Olympics, athletes and teams from Argentina were booed by the home crowd.
