Middlesbrough to sign Clermont’s Neto Borges

EFL Championship side Middlesbrough FC are on the verge of signing Clermont left-back Neto Borges (27), according to a report this Saturday from Le Parisien’s Marc Mechenoua. The Brazilian left-back is entering his final contract year with the Ligue 2 side. Clermont finished the previous Ligue 1 campaign in last place and were relegated to the second tier. Borges was elected GFFN’s left-back of the year in the 2022-2023 Ligue 1 campaign. Borges featured 64 times for Clermont since joining the French club two years ago from KRC Genk as a free agent.

Considering Borges’ contract with Clermont runs until 2025, the Brazilian is expected to sign a permanent deal with Middlesbrough. Boro were in the market for a left-back on the back of Alex Bangura’s Achilles injury sustained in preseason. Neto Borges was not part of the Clermont squad that won 1-0 at Troyes this Friday for Ligue 2’s second matchday.
